Star Wars Actor Mark Hamill Talks About Performing in Star Citizen

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill didn’t need much convincing to sign on for his role in PC space game Star Citizen. He says in a new interview with PC Gamer that he never expected to have the opportunity to work with Chris Roberts again–they previously worked together on the Wing Commander movie in 1999.

“When [Roberts] asked, I didn’t need to see the script,” Hamill said. “I said, ‘Count me in!’ Of course my agent said, ‘You didn’t tell him that, did you? Play hard to get for God’s sake!'”

Hamill also talked about the motion-capture process for Squadron 42, saying it’s like being a kid again.

“This is really stripping it down to basics,” Hamill explained. “It’s very equalizing to see everyone dressed exactly the same way–it doesn’t matter if you’re a principal player or a background artist. You spend a lifetime on movie sets, doing television and what-not, and you think you know something. Here you’re going back and learning it all over again.

“It’s like being a child again, playing Robin Hood in your backyard. It’s all pretending.”

Hamill plays Lt. Commander Steve “Old Man” Colton in Squadron 42. He’s a veteran pilot who serves as a mentor for the player. For a closer look, watch the video embedded above.

Other actors featured in Squadron 42 include people like Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings), Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises), and Mark Strong (Kingsman), among others. Even more actors will be announced later.

After three years of funding, Star Citizen has raised more than $100 million.
